Manny Pacquiao: Floyd Mayweather rematch talks underway

FILIPINO boxing legend Manny Pacquiao reportedly plans to end his ring career with a fight in April next year, but just who he fights remains the big question.
Amir Khan, Terence Crawford, Juan Manuel Marquez and Timothy Bradley have all been mentioned as potential foes but there’s one man above all others Pacman wants to face — Floyd Mayweather.
Pacquiao hasn’t fought since injuring his shoulder in the lead-up to a unanimous decision defeat against Mayweather in a long-awaited clash in May this year. Mayweather took his record to 49-0 with a bout against Andre Berto in September, before retiring.
But Pacquiao believes money will coax “Money” back in the ring, telling fans in avideo posted on his official Facebook page it was his number one priority.
“I don’t know yet who’s my opponent next but we’re still negotiating right now about the rematch with Floyd Mayweather so hoping for that,” Pacquaio said.
It’s no surprise Pacquiao is pursuing a Mayweather rematch. Atoning for his defeat is reason enough but the overwhelming motivating factor is what it will do for his bank balance.
Pacquiao earnt an estimated $180 million for their first fight and while it’s unlikely he’d pull the same figure again — because the interest in a rematch won’t be as high and Mayweather would likely demand an even larger split of the revenue to come out of retirement — it’s still the most lucrative fight he can make.
Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe appeared to respond to Pacquiao’s comments by tweeting: “Floyd Mayweather is RETIRED, end of discussion.” Mayweather retweeted the post.
